West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed that a driver in his 20s died following a single-vehicle collision in Birmingham city centre early on Monday, July 13.
Collision details and emergency response
The ambulance service was called to the junction of Lancaster Street and Lancaster Circus at 2:38am. Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, and a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic attended the scene. Upon arrival, crews found the man in a critical condition and immediately began administering advanced life support. Despite their best efforts, he was confirmed dead at the scene.
A female passenger was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital under emergency driving conditions. West Midlands Police were called to the nearby junction of Great Charles Street Queensway and St Chad’s Queensway at 2:35am, three minutes before the ambulance service was alerted.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “On arrival, crews found a man in a critical condition and immediately began administering advanced life support. Sadly, despite best efforts, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene. A woman was also treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital under emergency driving conditions.”
The incident remains under investigation by West Midlands Police. No further details about the cause of the crash have been released at this time.
