Daljeet Dullay, a 49-year-old from Harborne, has been sentenced after stealing wedding dresses from a hotel room during a first date that went disastrously wrong. He admitted burglary and assaulting a police officer at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, June 16.
What Happened at the London Hotel
On February 7, Dullay met a woman from social media for the first time at a London hotel. He claimed they forgot their room number and their key card mistakenly opened another guest's room. Once inside, he took £600 worth of Asian-style wedding dresses on impulse. He later insisted he had done no wrong as the dresses were returned.
Hotel CCTV and Arrest
Hotel CCTV captured the incident, leading police to be called. When officers arrived and arrested Dullay for burglary, he kicked out at one of the constables. He also admitted racially aggravated harassment after repeatedly calling an officer a racist term in a separate incident last October.
Previous Convictions and Sentence
Dullay had previous convictions, including a public order offence in 2022. His solicitor described the burglary as impulsive and unplanned, adding that Dullay was embarrassed because it was his first date with the woman.
At Birmingham Magistrates' Court, Dullay was given a year-long community order and ordered to pay £250 compensation to the two officers.
