Four Oaks, an affluent enclave in Sutton Coldfield, stands out as Birmingham's safest and most desirable neighbourhood. With top-rated schools, low crime rates, and average house prices around £460,000, it offers a peaceful lifestyle away from the city's typical challenges.
Low Crime Rates
Statistically, Four Oaks is the safest place to live in Birmingham. In the 12 months to February, only 362 violent and sexual offences were recorded. This is a stark contrast to high-crime areas like Lozells and Aston, which saw over 2,300 incidents in the same period. Antisocial behaviour is also minimal, with just 46 reports to police.
Top Schools for Families
The area is home to some of the country's best schools, making it ideal for families. Little Sutton Primary and St Anne's RC Primary rank in the top 100 nationally, according to the Sunday Times, while Four Oaks Primary is 112th. For secondary education, Bishop Vesey's Grammar School (ranked 41st) and Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls (49th) are among England's most respected institutions.
Property and Lifestyle
Four Oaks comprises streets north-east of Sutton Park, off main roads like Lichfield Road and Walsall Road. Large houses with luxury cars and gated properties are common. However, this lifestyle comes at a price: average house prices are around £460,000, significantly higher than the UK average of £270,000. The neighbourhood is considered Birmingham's 'least affordable' when comparing average house prices to average wages.
