Poshest Midlands Areas Revealed: Bromsgrove, Stratford, Lichfield Top List
Poshest Midlands Areas Revealed: Bromsgrove, Stratford, Lichfield

Four areas in the Midlands have been identified as the poshest, with the highest living standards and virtually no deprivation. These are Bromsgrove, Stratford-upon-Avon, Lichfield, and South Staffordshire. In stark contrast, Birmingham has a deprivation rate of 43%, meaning nearly every other street experiences poverty.

Affluent Commuter Towns

These affluent locations are leafy, desirable, and within easy reach of Birmingham, making them key commuter towns with fierce competition for housing. House prices often exceed half a million pounds. Residents generally enjoy a stress-free lifestyle far removed from the daily financial worries faced by many in the West Midlands. Poverty is essentially non-existent, with multiple luxury cars often sitting on driveways of gated properties.

Deprivation Rankings

The findings come from a recent study ranking English areas by deprivation. Birmingham was named the second most deprived out of 296 places. Other Midlands cities like Nottingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Leicester, and Coventry were also in the top 50. Unsurprisingly, larger cities and industrial towns tended to rank higher on the deprivation list.
