Solihull Man Admits Smuggling 32kg Cannabis from Dubai

Nathan Corfield, a 21-year-old from Ulverley Green Road in Solihull, has pleaded guilty to smuggling 32 kilograms of cannabis into the United Kingdom from Dubai. The class B drug was discovered in suitcases he brought back on Christmas Eve 2024.

Court Proceedings

At Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, June 23, Corfield admitted to importing the cannabis. The prosecutor stated, "The defendant had been returning from Dubai with suitcases containing 32kg of cannabis."

Magistrates deemed the offence too serious for their jurisdiction and committed the case to Birmingham Crown Court. The prosecutor explained, "Because of the seriousness of the offence, the sentencing powers are not sufficient in this court."

Legal Representation

When asked about legal representation, Corfield told the court he had "a solicitor ready to go to crown court." The chair of magistrates warned him: "The offence is so serious you need a greater punishment than we can give."

Sentencing Date

Corfield will be sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on July 21. The conviction follows a detailed investigation into his travel from Dubai, where he acquired the cannabis before flying back to the UK on Christmas Eve.
