Nathan Sutton, 24, of Brasshouse Lane, Smethwick, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison with a two-year extended licence for a month-long crime spree that involved breaking into homes, threatening occupants with knives, and stealing cars. The offences occurred between June 24 and July 22, 2024, across Sandwell, Dudley, and Wolverhampton.
Spree of Violence and Theft
Sutton was part of a gang that targeted more than 12 homes in less than a month. The burglaries escalated in violence, with householders threatened at knifepoint for their car keys. Several victims required hospital treatment following the attacks.
The Sandwell neighbourhood crime team identified Sutton as a main offender through extensive CCTV analysis and arrested him in late July 2024. He was convicted of 22 offences, including burglary, attempted burglary, theft, robbery, and attempted robbery. He also admitted trying to escape lawful custody when detained and taken to hospital for assessment.
Police Investigation and Sentencing
Sergeant Chelsea Norris of Sandwell Police said: “This was a series of terrifying burglaries where the offenders broke into people's homes and threatened them with weapons in a place where people should feel the safest. The team immediately launched an investigation, reviewing hours of CCTV footage, and were able to identify Sutton as one of the main offenders.”
She added: “The victims were subjected to horrific attacks at their own homes, and I hope that this sentencing provides some sense of comfort following the ordeals they have been through.”
Ongoing Investigation
Police confirmed that the identities of other gang members remain unknown. They urged anyone with information to come forward, stating, “we will seek to prosecute.” The sentencing took place at Birmingham Crown Court on July 6, 2025.
