A woman attempted to murder a boy by tampering with his medication after searching online for the 'worst thing' to mix with it, a court has heard.
Court hears details of alleged plot
Emma Williams, 41, from Erdington, is standing trial at Birmingham Crown Court, where she denies a charge of attempted murder. Prosecutor Tim Harrington opened the case on Tuesday, July 14, outlining the prosecution's allegations.
Harrington stated: 'The defendant tried to kill (the boy) and did so by interfering with important medication on a number of occasions. This was not a one-off. It wasn't a moment of madness, wasn't an accident. It was considered and planned deliberate actions designed to end (the boy's) life. Thankfully she didn't succeed but it wasn't through the lack of trying.'
Motive and internet searches
The prosecutor said Williams 'had motive' and that she 'researched it and acted upon it'. He added: 'Only one person knows why she did what she did. She is never going to tell you. She has never given a sensible explanation. There's only one explanation for the evidence and that's one of guilt. In fact we will demonstrate she was caught red-handed doing what we say she did.'
Harrington told the court Williams 'planned the demise' of the boy and made an internet search on her phone for the 'worst thing to mix' with his medication. He questioned: 'Why on earth would Emma Williams be making those internet searches other than to get rid of (him)?'
Trial continues
