Emma Masser, a patient undergoing cancer treatment at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli, has raised £3,846 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit through two ambitious fundraising events. The local resident, who has been receiving care for over 12 months, organized an entertainment night and a 24-hour cycle challenge to express her gratitude to the hospital staff.
Entertainment Night at Morfa Social Club
On the evening of April 5, Emma hosted a sold-out event at Morfa Social Club in Llanelli. The night featured bingo, a raffle, and performances by local artists. Despite initial worries about ticket sales, the event was a resounding success, with every seat filled. Emma remarked: "We were worried about ticket sales for the first event. However, it turned out to be a sell out and we couldn't have asked for better."
24-Hour Cycle Challenge at Pembrey Country Park
The second event took place from midday on May 16 to midday on May 17 at Pembrey Country Park. Participants cycled continuously throughout the 24-hour period, braving challenging weather conditions. Local support remained strong, with individuals and teams taking turns on the bikes. Emma noted: "The cyclothon was held from midday on May 16 to midday on May 17. We had people cycling throughout the 24 hours. The second event was challenging, mainly due to the weather, however again, local support was amazing."
Overwhelming Results and Gratitude
The combined fundraising total far exceeded expectations. Emma explained: "We were really pleased and amazed with the amount raised. We didn't have a target in mind, as any amount is better than nothing." She extended heartfelt thanks to the many contributors: "We would like to thank Morfa Social Club, Kenny Morris, Carmarthenshire County Council at Pembrey Country Park, CKs Foodstore, El Pascos and all family and friends who helped and supported both events."

Claire Rumble, fundraising officer at Hywel Dda Health Charities, praised Emma's efforts: "Wow, to organise two fundraisers whilst going through treatment is an incredible achievement and we can’t express our gratitude to Emma enough." The charity emphasized that donations like these enhance patient care beyond standard NHS funding. Claire added: "The generous charitable donations we receive don’t replace NHS funding. Instead, they are used to provide items and activities above and beyond core NHS expenditure, such as more welcoming surroundings for patients, families and staff, and research into, and the development of, treatments."
