Hundreds of thousands of pensioners across the UK may be unaware that they are eligible to claim hundreds of pounds in additional financial support each month to enhance their retirement incomes. According to recent estimates, approximately 900,000 retirees are not claiming Pension Credit, despite qualifying for this crucial benefit.
Substantial Financial Boost Available
Pension Credit can significantly increase weekly incomes, providing up to £227.10 for single pensioners or £346.60 for couples. This translates to a maximum of £1,386 extra per month, offering vital assistance with rising living costs and daily expenses.
Underclaimed Benefit with Wider Advantages
Even if the additional amount seems modest, experts strongly advise claiming Pension Credit because it serves as a gateway to other valuable benefits and discounts. Many retirees may overlook this opportunity due to misconceptions about eligibility or complexities in the application process.
Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert (MSE) highlighted the issue, stating, "If you're retired and have income less than £227 a week as an individual, or £346 a week as a couple, you may be due £1,000s a year in Pension Credit. Plus, it then entitles you to a whole raft of other benefits."
Urgent Call for Community Support
With up to £1.5 billion in Pension Credit remaining unclaimed by around 800,000 eligible households, there is a pressing need for awareness and action. Family members and friends are encouraged to assist older relatives in navigating the application process to ensure they receive the support they deserve.
This benefit remains one of the most underclaimed in the UK, underscoring the importance of outreach and education to help pensioners secure their financial well-being.
