Teaching assistant wins Postcode Lottery for third time

A teaching assistant from the West Midlands is celebrating an extraordinary stroke of luck after winning the People's Postcode Lottery for the third time.

A Life-Changing Third Win

Chantelle Riley, a 47-year-old from Castle Bromwich, saw her fortunes change once again when her postcode, B36 0RX, was announced as the winning Millionaire Street on Saturday 22 November. This remarkable win marks her third success with the lottery, making her one of its luckiest players.

Chantelle and seventeen of her neighbours shared a massive £1 million prize pot, with each winning ticket netting £50,000. One particularly fortunate neighbour even tripled their payout to £150,000 by holding three tickets. For Chantelle, this £50,000 win adds to her previous prizes of £14,221 and £1,078.

From Numbness to New Beginnings

Expressing her disbelief, Chantelle said, "I can’t believe it. I’m feeling kind of numb. It’s unreal." Her first win was in the B36 9 postcode, which is just across the road from her current address. She won again at that same postcode two years ago. "And now this is my third win and my biggest. I feel very lucky," she added.

Her strategic thinking paid off handsomely. Even after moving house twice, she kept her tickets active for both her past and current addresses. "I didn’t want to miss out if any of my postcodes came up," she explained. Her foresight also extended to her partner, whom she persuaded to sign up a few months ago. Her advice to him proved prophetic, as he also picked up £50,000 in the same draw.

Investing in Family and Future

The mum of four, who works in a special educational needs school, has immediate and heartwarming plans for her windfall. Having rented her home for six years, she now has the chance to buy it. "This house might be getting bought now. The future is looking bright," Chantelle shared.

Her family is at the centre of her plans. She is preparing to welcome her first granddaughter, who is due on 10 December. "She’ll get some nice things for sure," the soon-to-be gran said. While family comes first, she admitted she might indulge in a little treat for herself, having spotted a nice pair of Prada boots.

The win was part of a bumper week for the Postcode Lottery, where seven postcodes shared £7 million. This was the sixth postcode to land a £1 million prize in just six days. The Castle Bromwich area is no stranger to big wins, having landed £2 million in February 2014 and £3.2 million in July 2022 in the adjacent B36 9 area.

Chantelle was thrilled to share the moment with her community. "It’s amazing to win with so many people on my street. I’m so happy for next door as they’ve won as well," she said. Another winner, Sandra Grimes, 59, was seen jumping for joy as her £50,000 prize was revealed.
