Pensioner dies 17 days after Shrewsbury crash

A 76-year-old woman has died 17 days after a two-vehicle collision in Shrewsbury, prompting West Mercia Police to renew their appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.

The pensioner was driving a grey Dacia Sandero when it was involved in a collision with a white Audi S3 on Battlefield Road, near the Red Lion pub, at around 9.45pm on Wednesday, September 16. The woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical condition. She died from her injuries on Saturday, October 3.

Driver of Audi treated for minor injuries

The driver of the Audi, a man in his 30s, was treated for minor injuries at the scene. No arrests have been made in connection with the collision, according to a spokesperson for West Mercia Police.

The spokesperson said: "Officers investigating a collision in Shrewsbury on Wednesday, 16 September, are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward to help with their enquiries."

Police appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage

Investigators are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle in the moments leading up to it. The spokesperson added: "Anyone who was in the area at the time and may have dashcam footage or information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit by emailing SCIUNorth@westmercia.police.uk, quoting incident number 533i of 16 September, 2026."

The collision took place on a main route through the Battlefield area of Shrewsbury, a town in the West Midlands region. The road was closed for a period following the incident to allow emergency services to attend and investigators to examine the scene.

Investigation ongoing

West Mercia Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made so far, and the investigation remains ongoing. Officers are urging anyone with information, however minor it may seem, to come forward to assist with their enquiries.

The death of the 76-year-old woman brings the total number of fatal collisions on Shropshire roads this year to a figure that police have not publicly disclosed. The Serious Collision Investigation Unit is leading the probe into the circumstances of the crash.
