JQ Beer Weekend Returns: Birmingham's Premier Pub Crawl Set for Record Crowds
The JQ Beer Weekend, one of Birmingham's most anticipated pub crawls, has officially returned for its fourth annual edition. Running from Thursday, April 16, to Saturday, April 18, this event celebrates the vibrant hospitality scene in the Jewellery Quarter with a lineup of 26 independent pubs and bars.
Organizers and participants are buzzing with excitement, predicting a record-breaking turnout as thousands of visitors flock to the neighbourhood. The event offers a unique opportunity to explore the area's best venues, all within easy walking distance, fostering a strong sense of community and camaraderie.
A Staple Event with Growing Popularity
Now firmly established as a staple in Birmingham's social calendar, the JQ Beer Weekend has gained a reputation for its lively atmosphere and diverse offerings. James Jackson, general manager of The Church, highlighted the event's impact, noting that last year was one of the busiest days for his pub, potentially setting a record.
"The Jewellery Quarter feels like a small town with a tight-knit community," Jackson told BirminghamLive. "This event adds a special touch, making it distinct from typical city centre outings. It's a contained pub crawl where you're just steps away from the next venue, each with its own unique charm."
At The Church, visitors can experience an old-school boozer vibe indoors, complemented by a lovely roof terrace serving a variety of food options. Jackson emphasized the social aspect, describing the weekend as "a really fun and sociable time for everyone, filled with good vibes and new connections."
Venue Highlights and Participant Enthusiasm
Another standout venue, The Clifden, recently reopened in February with a refreshed menu, swapping pizzas for curries. Assistant manager Michael Lynch expressed confidence in the pub's appeal during the event, calling it a must-visit spot.
"The JQ Beer Weekender has become a bit of a staple in Birmingham over the years, and it's easy to see why," Lynch said. "It brings together some of the best pubs in the area, encouraging people to wander and discover. For many, it's simply Birmingham's best pub crawl."
Lynch praised The Clifden for striking the perfect balance between bustling energy and comfort, with great drinks and music that often keep guests longer than planned. He added that the event's appeal lies in its ability to showcase the neighbourhood's independent spirit, making it a celebration of local businesses.
Event Details and Incentives
Participants who visit six venues during the weekend will receive a commemorative t-shirt, allowing them to take a piece of the experience home. Whether enjoying a lager, lemonade, or even just water, the event welcomes all to join in the festivities.
