Orange Pip Market Celebrates a Decade of Community and Culture
This year marks a significant milestone for Middlesbrough's vibrant Orange Pip market as it celebrates its 10th birthday with a summer season filled with food, creativity, and music. The popular monthly market has become a cherished fixture in the town centre over the past decade, primarily based on Baker and Bedford Streets, where local businesses, musicians, and creatives unite to showcase Middlesbrough's rich cultural offerings.
A Landmark Year for Middlesbrough's Cultural Scene
The announcement of this year's summer programme comes as Middlesbrough has been confirmed on the longlist for the UK City of Culture 2029. Adding to the excitement, the town will host the prestigious Turner Prize, the UK's biggest art award ceremony, this year. Middlesbrough is set to welcome an array of cultural events, including the Mela, the Taste of Africa festival, Middlesbrough Art Week, and a new Middlesbrough Storytelling Festival, positioning it as a hub of artistic activity.
Councillor Philippa Storey, Middlesbrough's deputy mayor and executive member for culture, expressed her enthusiasm: "Orange Pip market is an anchor of Middlesbrough's cultural and entertainment programme and is loved by people of all ages and backgrounds. It's incredible to think it was launched 10 years ago - its continued success is testament to the hard work of the team behind the market and our wonderful local businesses and creatives. It brings Middlesbrough’s community together and showcases the region’s exceptional talent. The 'Pip will be central to another big year for culture in Middlesbrough and I can't wait for the first one of the season."
