SKATEFEST 2026 Brings Skate Culture and Community Revitalization to Thornton-le-Dale
SKATEFEST 2026: New Community Festival in Thornton-le-Dale

SKATEFEST 2026 Set to Transform Thornton-le-Dale with Inaugural Community Festival

A groundbreaking community festival is poised to make its debut as SKATEFEST 2026 arrives in Thornton-le-Dale for the first time, blending skate culture, live music, street art, and community action. The event aims to rejuvenate and revitalize the local skatepark, creating a lasting positive impact on the area.

Event Details and Free Family-Friendly Activities

Scheduled for Saturday, May 23, from 10am to 4pm, SKATEFEST will transform Manthorpe Park Skatepark into a vibrant hub of activity. This free, family-friendly event is open to all ages and marks one of two free community events planned across Ryedale skateparks this year, with the second event yet to be announced.

The festival is a collaborative effort between the Manthorpe Play Park Committee and Ryedale Skate School, spearheaded by local community advocate Ryan Swain. Their goal is to deliver a positive, inclusive celebration that not only honors skate culture but also supports the long-term renovation and regeneration of the skatepark.

Artistic Enhancements and Skatepark Renovations

As part of the revitalization efforts, new graffiti and street art features will be voluntarily added to the skatepark wall by local artist Ben Walgate, known professionally as Moni Graffiti Art. This artwork is designed to breathe new life into the space, fostering a more inspiring and welcoming environment for young people and the broader community.

Additionally, the skatepark wall is undergoing restructuring, generously funded by Matthewsons. The skatepark, which originally opened in February 2001, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, adding a milestone element to the festival.

Festival Highlights and Community Engagement

SKATEFEST 2026 will feature a diverse lineup of activities, including:

  • Live music performances from bands and DJs such as Lukey-G, Swag, Ryan Swain, Charlie Boy Sings, Strawb, Callum Russell, and more to be confirmed.
  • Skate competitions with prizes for best tricks and best runs.
  • Free learn-to-skate sessions hosted by Ryedale Skate School.
  • Artisan stalls and food vendors.
  • Live street art and graffiti demonstrations.
  • Additional activities and announcements to follow.

Organizers emphasize that SKATEFEST is more than just an action sports event; it is positioned as a community culture festival that unites families, young people, creatives, and local residents. The festival aims to leave a lasting legacy by enhancing the skatepark and fostering community pride.

Quotes from Organizers and Call for Participation

Ryan Swain commented, "This is about the community coming together. Working alongside the Manthorpe Play Park Committee, we wanted to create a free event that celebrates skate culture while also giving something lasting back to the village. The skatepark is a brilliant space, and this is about helping rejuvenate it, inspire pride in it, and make it somewhere young people feel excited to be."

Local performers, traders, sponsors, and community partners are encouraged to get involved. For enquiries, participation, and sponsorship opportunities, contact ryedaleskateschool@gmail.com.
