Spring into Spalding Festival Set for Vibrant Return This March
South Holland District Council has announced the eagerly awaited return of the popular Spring into Spalding event, scheduled to take place next month. This annual celebration will transform the town centre into a hub of activity on Saturday, March 28, running from 11am until 3pm.
A Day Packed with Free Entertainment and Activities
Visitors to Spalding can look forward to a lively programme of free entertainment and family-friendly activities spread across key locations in the town. The main stage in Hall Place will host a variety of live performances throughout the day, providing a soundtrack to the festivities.
In addition to the musical offerings, Hall Place will be the centre for a wide range of free children's activities, designed to spark creativity and fun. These will include:
- Arts and crafts sessions
- Face painting and balloon modelling
- Cookstars cookie and muffin decorating workshops
Walkabout Performers and Market Delights
The town centre will come alive with colourful walkabout performers entertaining crowds as they explore. Expect to encounter the Bourne Borderers, Rapunzel, an Alice in Wonderland duo, and graceful butterfly stilt walkers weaving through the streets.
Food enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy with various food stalls located in both Hall Place and Market Place. The regular Saturday Market will continue to operate as usual in Market Place, complemented by seasonal market stalls in the Sheep Market area, which will also feature free traditional rides for visitors to enjoy.
Floral Highlights and Charity Support
A particular highlight of this year's event will be the flower arranging competitions, hosted by the chairlady of South Holland District Council, Councillor Jan Whitbourn. These will take place in a marquee on New Road, conveniently located outside Bentley's Bar.
Two expert-led masterclass sessions are scheduled for 11.30am and 1pm, catering to both adults and children, with all necessary materials provided. The competitions are structured as follows:
- Adults' competition: Entry is priced at £5, with all proceeds going to support the chairlady's chosen charities.
- Children's competition: Free to enter, with attractive prizes generously sponsored by Spalding Lions.
The prizegiving ceremony for winners in each category will be held on the main stage at 2.45pm. Adult participants can pay their entry fee on the day, but those wishing to secure a place in the competition are encouraged to book in advance by emailing Samantha.Bradley@sholland.gov.uk.
Council Enthusiasm for Community Celebration
Councillor Gary Taylor expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating: "Spring into Spalding is a fantastic celebration of our town and a great way to welcome the springtime season together. With free activities, entertainment, food, and something for all ages, it's a brilliant day out for families, residents, and visitors."
This community-focused festival promises to offer a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to come together and enjoy the arrival of spring in Spalding. With its blend of cultural performances, hands-on activities, and charitable initiatives, Spring into Spalding stands as a testament to the vibrant community spirit in the area.
