Salvation Army in Aberystwyth Issues Call for Kitchen Volunteers
The Salvation Army in Aberystwyth has launched an appeal for new volunteers to assist in delivering its essential community services. The organisation is specifically seeking individuals with kitchen experience and a Level 2 Food and Hygiene qualification to bolster its busy Thursday Drop-In session, which runs from 10am to 1pm.
Volunteer Role Details and Responsibilities
The volunteer position involves a range of critical kitchen duties. Volunteers will be tasked with preparing food, serving meals, and handling all kitchen operations, including the thorough clean-down at the end of the Drop-In session. This role is vital to maintaining the smooth functioning of the service, which relies heavily on community support.
More Than Just a Meal Service
Lieutenant Paul Sass, who leads The Salvation Army in Aberystwyth, emphasised that the Drop-In serves a purpose far beyond providing meals. He stated, "Our Drop-In provision plays an important part in our community. People who attend on Thursdays tell me they feel it is a safe place to meet friends, with welcoming people, and a good place to talk about mental health and get help with any issues troubling them. It is very humbling to hear such comments from those who experience our service first-hand."
He further highlighted the indispensable role of volunteers, noting, "Without them, many vital and valued community spaces would be either impossible to run or access would be limited." This underscores the broader impact of volunteer contributions in sustaining community-focused initiatives.
How to Get Involved
