Margate Teenage Market Set for Exciting Return in April 2026
A dynamic market operated entirely by talented young residents is poised to make a comeback in Margate next month, building on a series of highly successful previous events. The Turner Contemporary will be converted into a bustling community hub for the first Thanet Teenage Market of 2026 on Saturday, April 4. Attendees can browse up to 25 distinctive stalls and experience a dedicated performance area for young musicians from 10am to 5pm.
Opportunities for Young Creators and Performers
Organisers are still providing a limited number of free spaces for individuals aged eight to 24 who wish to display their abilities. Whether you aim to sell handmade goods or perform live for audiences, applications are currently open via the Margate Teenage Market webpage. This program has already assisted over 70 young people across Margate, Broadstairs, and Ramsgate in acquiring crucial business experience.
Support from Local Leaders
Bob Porter, Director of Place for Thanet District Council, is urging the entire community to attend and back these aspiring business owners. He stated: “To date, over 70 young people have participated in previous markets, collectively generating more than £10,000 in sales.” He continued: “These figures are incredibly encouraging and a testament to the hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm our young entrepreneurs pour into their businesses.” Mr Porter also mentioned being profoundly impressed by the professional demeanor and creativity exhibited by participants.
He added: “I would love to see a big turnout – it’s not only a chance to celebrate their talent but also a great reason to support Margate’s businesses.” Joe Barratt, co-creator of the national Teenage Market initiative, shared his happiness about the free platform offered to local youth. He said: “Having seen the impact that our events have made on the lives of young people, I’m delighted that Thanet District Council is giving young people a free platform to get their businesses off the ground and showcase their creative talents.”
Community Involvement and Future Plans
Local businesses can also participate by displaying promotional posters in their shop windows to help raise awareness. The event receives funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and support from the East Kent Colleges Group and Harvey Waste. If you miss the April date, a second market is already scheduled for Broadstairs on Sunday, June 14.
Location: Margate in Kent.
