A recently restored 1938 Austin 10 Cambridge will go under the hammer to raise funds for Farleigh Hospice. The vintage vehicle, originally a 50th birthday gift, spent 36 years in a barn in Chelmsford before being donated to the Essex and Suffolk Austin 7 Club for restoration.
The Car's Journey and Restoration
The current owner, Richard Stubbings, agreed to give the car to the club, which cleaned it up and made it roadworthy. Hazel Clements from the Essex and Suffolk Austin 7 Club described the discovery: “The barn was covered with so much ivy that we had to use a chainsaw to get the door open. Inside, we found the 1938 Austin 10 Cambridge covered in dirt, cobwebs and rat droppings and definitely not in a roadworthy condition.”
Thanks to the club members' hard work and local vehicle suppliers' generosity, the car has been restored to its former glory and has passed its MOT. It is now ready for a new owner, with hopes it will raise thousands of pounds for hospice care.
Auction Details and Charity Impact
The fundraising auction will be held at Lodge Coaches’ Bus, Coach and Car Meet in High Easter on Sunday, August 16. It will be hosted by special guest auctioneer Derek Mathewson, known for appearing in the television series Bangers and Cash. Potential buyers do not need to register their interest ahead of the auction.
Farleigh Hospice provides compassionate hospice care and support to adults with life-limiting illnesses and their families across mid Essex, both in homes and at its specialist Inpatient Unit. The charity makes no charge for its services and relies on public support for events like this auction.
