Care Home Wins National Art Competition with Pop Art

Premier Court Bupa Care Home in Bishop's Stortford has won first place in a nationwide art competition with a collaborative pop art piece of Marilyn Monroe. The artwork triumphed in the Creative Mojo 100th Anniversary Times Competition, which runs throughout the year to celebrate famous historical icons marking centenary milestones in 2026.

Collaborative Effort Celebrates Hollywood Icon

Residents Margaret, Doreen, and Carol created the bright, Warhol-inspired piece alongside family members and a member of the care home team. Together, they carefully mixed paints and crafted multiple colorful versions of the iconic Hollywood star. Carol used her artistic talents to mix the perfect eyeshadow shades, while everyone agreed on a bright, cheerful palette.

As a reward for their victory, the care home will receive 50 professionally printed postcards featuring their artwork. The winning entry was submitted into the contest by session leader Claire Stallan.

Home Manager Praises Creative Engagement

Jade Shaw, Home Manager at Premier Court, said: “Congratulations to all involved in creating this award-winning piece of artwork. The win reflects Premier Court's commitment to providing regular creative opportunities for residents.”

Shaw added: “What made this project particularly special was the encouragement and creative dialogue between participants. Residents actively discussed additional finer details for the artwork, from cake toppings to colour choices for cake cases, demonstrating genuine engagement and investment in the final artwork.”

Ongoing Creative Programme

Care homes across the country have been taking part in monthly creative projects celebrating world-famous figures like Sir David Attenborough and Claude Monet. Shaw noted: “We facilitate approximately five creative activities each month, including the monthly guided sessions led by Creative Mojo facilitator Claire Stallan, who submitted the care home's artwork into the nationwide competition. These are well-received by those living with us and it’s wonderful to see such strong engagement.”
