Inclusive Circus Starr Brings Sensory Show to Leicester Families
Inclusive Circus Starr Brings Sensory Show to Leicester

A wonderful world of magic and wonder is coming to Leicester this month to create lasting memories for local families. The award-winning charity Circus Starr is bringing its accessible and sensory-friendly circus to the city. The performance will take place at Judgemeadow Community College in Evington on May 23.

This brand new show is specifically tailored for SEND and neurodivergent children and their families. The organisers strive to create a welcoming and inclusive space so that families can attend without fear of stigma and discrimination.

Jon Mitchell of the charity said: "This year’s show will be our most ambitious yet, with an imaginative theme of Circus under the Sea. Families can expect to see sensory LED acts, jugglers, acrobatics and more."

Every event is set up to relaxed theatre standards, which feature reduced volumes and considered lighting. The team pays special attention to sensory triggers to ensure everyone feels comfortable during the performance. There is also a BSL interpreter at every single show to make sure the magic is accessible to all.

The charity recently celebrated winning a national Scope award for its work in breaking down barriers for the people it supports. Michelle Crossley of the charity said: "We love sharing our fun events with those who find it challenging to access live performances. Whilst our show is very visual, it is important to us that those with hearing impairments can enjoy the performance in its entirety, and we are proud to have our interpreters at each of our shows to help make that possible."
