KGJ Insurance has launched a competition inviting artists to design a new mural celebrating Stourbridge's heritage and culture, with a £2,000 prize for the winning entry. The Stourbridge-based company, which has operated from the town centre since 1969, is seeking a fresh design to replace the artwork currently displayed across the top-floor windows of its premises.
The existing mural, which depicts landmarks from across the region, has become a familiar sight for motorists travelling along the town's ring-road. The new design should be inspired by Stourbridge and the surrounding area's history, landmarks and character.
Winning artwork to be displayed on building's upper windows
The winning artwork will be enlarged and printed across the building's upper windows, where it will be seen by thousands of passing motorists and pedestrians. The successful artist will receive £2,000, while three highly commended entries will each receive £100. The winning design will also feature in KGJ Insurance's marketing materials from 2027 onwards.
The competition is open to artists of all ages and abilities, including professionals, hobbyists and those who enjoy creating art in their spare time. Entrants can submit original designs or concepts, with no restrictions on artistic style. Professional artists can also submit sketches accompanied by a link to their portfolio.
Owner says competition aims to bring community into the business
KGJ Insurance owner Martin Wood said: "We've been proud to have our mural looking out over Stourbridge for many years now; it's something people notice and often comment on.
"KGJ Insurance has been supporting families and businesses across Worcestershire and the West Midlands for nearly 60 years, and as we strengthen our links with our local community, it feels like the perfect time to bring something special into KGJ directly from them.
"What better way than by inviting the talented artists on our doorstep to showcase their work on our building. We can't wait to see what people come up with."
Deadline for entries set for November 27
Entries must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, November 27. Further information about entering is available at www.kgjinsurance.com/competition.
