Families in Dover and Deal are being encouraged to take advantage of the Government's new Great British Summer Savings scheme, which cuts VAT on eligible family attractions from 20 per cent to 5 per cent between June 25 and September 1. Participating businesses are passing the savings on to customers, making days out more affordable. English Heritage has confirmed that both Dover Castle and Walmer Castle are passing on every penny of the VAT saving to visitors.
Dover Castle and Walmer Castle join the scheme
Dover Castle, one of the most iconic landmarks in the constituency, is offering a Great British Summer programme with fairground games, circus skills, puppets and mini golf. Children can also pick up an activity passport and collect stamps as they explore the castle. Across the constituency, Walmer Castle and Gardens is also participating, with eight acres of award-winning gardens and a fascinating glimpse into local history.
The scheme also includes savings on children's meals at participating restaurants and food venues, helping families enjoy a meal together after a day out without worrying about the bill. According to Mike Tapp MP, the cost of tickets, food and travel can quickly add up, so measures that help families keep more money in their pockets matter.
Free bus travel for children in August
In addition, throughout August, children aged 15 and under can travel free on participating bus services across England. This provides another incentive for families to leave the car at home and explore local attractions. Mike Tapp MP said, "We have an incredible part of the country right here in Dover and Deal. This summer, thanks to the Great British Summer Savings scheme, families have even more reason to get out and enjoy it."
The scheme aims to support local attractions and businesses that depend on summer visitors while making days out more affordable for families. With Dover Castle, Walmer Castle, beautiful coastline and local restaurants all taking part, there are plenty of opportunities for families to make the most of the summer.
