Birmingham comedy venue The Glee Club has partnered with ten of the city's independent businesses to give away hundreds of free comedy tickets in a campaign called 'The Big Glee Giveaway'. The initiative, launched on Thursday, August 13, hides tickets across a selection of independent cafés, restaurants, bars and shops throughout Birmingham, offering customers a complimentary night of live comedy while supporting local venues.
How the free ticket giveaway works
Comedy fans can obtain free tickets by visiting one of the participating venues, making a purchase and asking whether they have any Glee Club tickets available. The giveaway operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with tickets valid for selected comedy shows taking place between 14 August and 26 September.
The campaign aims to introduce new customers to both The Glee Club and some of Birmingham's thriving independent businesses, while rewarding local customers with a free night of live entertainment. The Glee Club first opened in Birmingham's city centre in 1994 as the UK's first dedicated live stand-up comedy club outside London.
Participating businesses and social media promotion
The ten Birmingham businesses taking part in the giveaway are Arch 13, Plonk, The Heath Bookshop, Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath, Grace + James, BMAG's shop, Faculty, 1000 Trades, Cherry Reds and Tiger Bites Pig. The giveaway locations have been revealed through The Glee Club and I Choose Birmingham's social media channels, giving comedy fans the chance to discover some of the city's independent businesses while hunting down free tickets.
The Glee Club founder, Mark Tughan, said: "Independent businesses are at the heart of what makes our city so vibrant. We wanted to create a giveaway that not only rewards audiences with a great night out, but also shines a spotlight on the fantastic local businesses that deserve our support. By working together, we hope to encourage people to discover somewhere new, shop local and enjoy plenty of laughter along the way."
Summer comedy programme and impact
'The Big Glee Giveaway' forms part of The Glee Club's summer comedy programme, with shows taking place throughout August and September featuring some of the UK's best stand-up comedians. The giveaway encourages people to discover and support the local venues that make Birmingham special, according to the venue. Tickets are available until 26 September, giving customers a limited window to claim free entry to selected comedy shows.
