Bournville is hosting its first ever 'Bake Picnic' this summer, with organisers urging attendees to simply 'bring a blanket' while they provide the bakes. The event promises locally-made cakes, brownies, scones, and 'sourdough still warm from the oven'.
Event Details and Organisers
The Bake Picnic takes place on Saturday, August 1, 2026. It is run by the Bournville Trust in partnership with Abinchi, a Birmingham-based social dining and private events company known for curating foodie events at secret locations across the city. The focus is on home bakers and independent bakeries rather than large chains.
Quote from Organiser
Jamila Dankaro from Abinchi said: 'On 1 August 2026, Bournville is hosting its first ever Bake Picnic. A family focused community event bringing together home bakers and independent bakeries from across Birmingham. Picture picnic blankets, sunshine, and tables full of incredible bread, cakes and pastries made by people from right here in the city. Kids are welcome, there's plenty of space to spread out, and every single bake comes from a local baker rather than a big brand.'
Accessibility and Funding
There is a small admin fee to attend, deliberately kept low to ensure accessibility for families. The event is also funded by the Neighbourhood Networks Scheme, which recognises its community value in bringing families and older residents together for a genuinely accessible day out.
