Eid al-Adha, known as the 'Festival of Sacrifice', is one of the most significant festivals in the Muslim calendar, commemorating the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. This three-day celebration is a holy period dedicated to prayer, family gatherings, gift-giving, and charitable acts, including the ritual sacrifice (Qurbani) to support the needy.
When is Eid al-Adha in 2026?
Eid al-Adha follows the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. In 2026, the festival is expected to begin on the evening of Tuesday, May 26, and end by Friday, May 29, subject to the sighting of the moon. These dates coincide with the May half-term and fall just after the Bank Holiday weekend in England, offering families an extended period for celebrations.
