Funky Voices Choir Celebrates 20 Years with Paul Carrack Concerts and Eisteddfod Debut
Funky Voices Marks 20 Years with Major Performances and Competition

While community choirs are flourishing across the region, Funky Voices distinguishes itself as a remarkable success story as it celebrates its 20th anniversary. This choir has not only won competitions and raised significant funds for charities but has also embraced the excitement of becoming part-time pop stars, creating unforgettable musical experiences.

A Landmark Anniversary with Iconic Performances

Funky Voices, the acclaimed community choir serving Essex and Suffolk, is thrilled to announce its reunion with legendary singer-songwriter Paul Carrack for special performances this May. The choir will join Carrack, often hailed by the BBC as "The Man with the Golden Voice," at two prestigious venues: the Ipswich Regent Theatre and London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

These concerts will feature iconic hits from Carrack's career, including How Long, Over My Shoulder, and The Living Years, drawn from his work with bands like Ace, Squeeze, and Mike + The Mechanics. This collaboration builds on a successful partnership that began in 2023, when 170 Funky Voices singers performed with Carrack at the Royal Albert Hall, creating defining, goosebump-inducing moments for the choir.

Expanding Creative Horizons

The choir's journey with Carrack has escalated to include a spellbinding recording session at the legendary Air Studios, alongside Dave Arch, the musical director of Strictly Come Dancing. Most recently, Funky Voices featured on Carrack's newly released film and album, For One Night Only, further cementing their ongoing creative partnership and showcasing their musical versatility.

Growth and Community Impact

With thriving choirs based in Colchester, Ipswich, and Brentwood, Funky Voices continues to expand its reach while celebrating uplifting performances, powerful harmonies, and a strong community spirit. The choir has also launched a new YouTube podcast titled "Funky Voices – Off The Record," which explores collaborations, grassroots music, and behind-the-scenes stories, offering fans a deeper look into their musical world.

Achievements and Future Endeavors

Last month, Funky Voices achieved first place at the Colchester Rotary Festival choir competition, a triumph that motivated them to audition for the renowned Eisteddfod Festival. Their dedication paid off, and this July, they will head to Wales to represent England as a competing choir on the Eisteddfod stage, one of the world's most respected choral competition festivals.

This opportunity is a testament to the choir's musical excellence and unwavering commitment, adding to a year filled with remarkable milestones. Sandra Colston MBE, founder and director of Funky Voices, expressed her excitement: "Performing with Paul at the Royal Albert Hall was unforgettable, and being part of his new film and album has been another incredible honour. To be invited back again—especially during our 20th year—and to step onto more iconic stages is truly special."

Welcoming New Members

Funky Voices is always eager to welcome new members who are looking for big harmonies, laughter, and unforgettable musical moments. The choir invites anyone interested in joining their vibrant community to learn more about how to get involved and be part of this exciting journey.
