Preston Manor, a Grade II listed Edwardian manor in Brighton, is set to become the stage for an immersive Agatha Christie-inspired mystery weekend on Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9. Families are invited to step into a detective adventure where everyone is a suspect, hunting for clues and solving puzzles to crack a fictional crime.
The event, titled 'Mystery at the Manor Family Weekend', celebrates two significant milestones in Agatha Christie's legacy: the 100th anniversary of the publication of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and 50 years since her death. Visitors will encounter nods to some of her best-loved stories hidden throughout the manor's atmospheric rooms.
The Case of the Missing Ruby
The central plot involves the theft of a priceless ruby, the 'Star of Southwick', from Lady Stanford's safe. Young investigators, joined by Seagull Syd and the mischievous Jim the Dog—who harbors a suspicious interest in cake—will explore the manor, solve riddles, question roaming characters, and piece together clues to identify the culprit.
Before starting the trail, budding detectives can choose a disguise, complete with moustache or glasses, grab a magnifying glass, and create their own Preston Manor Police ID card. They can also design a 'Wanted' poster of their prime suspect. Every child who completes the trail receives a small prize.
Family Activities and Vintage Flair
Beyond the mystery trail, the weekend offers live music (Saturday only), brain-teasing challenges, and family activities with vintage charm. Visitors can play traditional croquet on the manor lawn, as Edwardian families did, and then visit Café Rust for cake—keeping an eye out for Jim the Dog's antics.

Train passengers can claim two-for-one admission by presenting a valid rail ticket at the entrance, making it excellent value for a family day out.
