Liverpool Unveils Forever 20 Sculpture for Jota and Brother

Liverpool has released images of a new permanent tribute to striker Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva at Anfield. The Forever 20 sculpture will be situated on 97 Avenue, where thousands of tributes to the Portuguese brothers were placed following their deaths in a car accident in July last year.

Design and Symbolism

The sculpture features a heart design, acknowledging Jota's goal celebration, and includes lyrics from the song fans still sing in his memory: 'he will take us to victory, oh, his name is Diogo'. Mounted on a stone plinth, the monument reveals Jota's retired number 20 shirt and Silva's number 30, which he wore for Portuguese second-tier club Penafiel, when viewed from different angles.

Official Statement

In a statement on the club's official website, Liverpool said the monument 'celebrates their lives, their bond, and the love and respect felt by family, team-mates and supporters across the world' and 'will serve as a permanent symbol of love, unity and remembrance, and a place where everyone can reflect, remember and pay their respects.'

A date for the memorial's unveiling has yet to be announced.

Wolves Tribute

In March, Wolves honoured their former hero with a pair of large moving artworks created by former club captain Jody Craddock. These pieces hang permanently in the reception area of the Stan Cullis Stand at Molineux for supporters to visit.

Background

The two men died when the Lamborghini they were travelling in veered off the road and burst into flames on the A-52 in Palacios de Sanabria near Zamora, Spain, at 12:40 am on July 3. The deaths of the 28-year-old Portugal international, who played a key role in Liverpool's Premier League title triumph at the end of the 2024-25 season, and Silva, 25, prompted an outpouring of grief from the national and international football communities.
