Maxstoke Castle, a stunning 14th-century moated castle near Coleshill, is opening its doors to the public for just three days this summer. For the first time, visitors can step inside this fairy-tale fortress that has been home to the same family for over 400 years.
A Journey Back in Time
Located just 15 minutes from Birmingham, the castle is a perfect square with four towers, a gatehouse, and a drawbridge. Surrounded by four acres of formal gardens, courtyard, moat walks, kitchen garden, and wooded areas, it offers a picturesque escape.
Historic Highlights
Inside, original oak doors lead to the childhood bedroom of King Henry VII, a huge banqueting hall, a library, and an oak drawing room. The drawing room features a Whispering door recovered from Kenilworth Castle after the Civil War. Among the furnishings is a Gunpowder Plot table that belonged to Sir Everard Digby, the first conspirator executed after the 1605 plot.
Ghostly Encounters
Legend has it that the castle is haunted by a ghost, adding an eerie charm to its rich history. Normally closed to the public, this rare opening allows visitors to explore its secrets.
