MAFS Australia's Luke Reveals He Won't Watch Show Back After Stressful Experience
MAFS Australia's Luke Won't Watch Show Back After Stress

Married At First Sight Australia participant Luke Fourniotis has made a surprising revelation, stating he will not be watching the show back as it airs on television. The groom, who was matched with communications specialist Mel Akbay for the experiment, has spoken out about the immense stress he has felt since the series began broadcasting.

Stress and Illness Triggered by Show's Airing

In an interview with TV Week, Luke disclosed that he has been battling an illness that he believes was directly triggered by the stress of the series finally airing. "I've actually been a bit under the weather," he said. "I think it's part of just the stress of it all coming out. It was a tough time, so part of me doesn't want to relive that, but there's no escaping the feeling."

Wedding Day Drama and Personal Struggles

The experiment did not get off to a smooth start for Luke and Mel. Luke arrived extremely late to their wedding ceremony and was seen chewing gum at the altar, which understandably did not sit well with his bride. This rocky beginning was compounded by deeper personal issues that Luke was grappling with.

Following the passing of his father, Luke had struggled with commitment and hoped the MAFS experiment would help him finally settle down. He opened up about the unforeseen struggles he encountered without his late father by his side, while also dealing with the breakdown of his only long-term relationship before joining the show.

Coping with Loss and Emotional Trauma

"Those two losses formed a big void," Luke explained. "I never fully dealt with my dad passing away; I'd never really dealt with anything remotely close to it before. Then, losing that relationship triggered emotions about Dad passing. It was quite a traumatic time."

He admitted that while the fear of loss didn't directly impact his time in the experiment, new struggles emerged that made the experience challenging. "I wouldn't say that the fear of loss impacted my time in the experiment, but I would say that there were new struggles that came up that made it not so good."

Not Alone in Avoiding the Broadcast

Luke isn't the only MAFS Australia contestant from this season who isn't planning to tune in to watch the show. Brook Crompton, who is now pregnant and engaged to her ex-partner Harry, revealed in a separate interview that the couple's focus is entirely on their growing family rather than the reality series.

Harry stated: "I haven't even watched a single episode, I don't think it's very real to be honest." Brook appeared to share the same sentiment, admitting she doesn't have "time for the drama" now that she's preparing for motherhood.

The long-awaited MAFS Australia season is finally airing in the UK, prompting participants like Luke to reflect on their experiences for the first time since filming concluded. Despite the show's popularity, some contestants are choosing to distance themselves from the broadcast version of events that unfolded during their time in the experiment.
