Miles Hunt's Surprising Brewery Job After Pandemic

90s Birmingham Rock Star Miles Hunt's Unexpected Brewery Career

Miles Hunt, the iconic frontman of the 1990s Birmingham rock band The Wonder Stuff, has revealed a surprising post-pandemic career move. In a recent interview on Radio X, Hunt disclosed that he worked at The Three Tuns brewery in Bishop's Castle, Shropshire, for seven months.

From Rock Stages to Brewery Floors

The Birmingham-born singer explained that in 2022, as lockdown restrictions eased, he felt unprepared to return to touring. "I was about to start gigging again and then I just thought, 'I don't think I've got anything in the tank,'" Hunt told Radio X host Chris Moyles. "I wasn't looking forward to gigging."

Instead, Hunt noticed that The Three Tuns, established in 1642 and recognized as the oldest licensed brewery in the UK, was hiring draymen. "I saw this local brewery... was needing new draymen, and I thought, 'I could do that for the summer,'" he recounted.

A Swift Transition to Brewery Life

Hunt described walking into the brewery, located just a few miles from his home, where staff who knew him from the pub were surprised by his request. "They're like, 'Oh, Miles, what you're doing?' And I'm like, 'Can I have a job?'" he said. After confirming he had a clean driver's licence, Hunt started the next morning.

"The next morning I was humping barrels of beer around, and I did that for seven months. And I loved it," Hunt emphasized, highlighting his genuine enjoyment of the physical work.

Connection to the Midlands Brewing Heritage

The Three Tuns brewery has a rich history, crafting ales for centuries in the Midlands region. Hunt's temporary role there adds a unique chapter to both his personal story and the brewery's legacy. His revelation came during a conversation about gifting beer from the brewery, which he had previously done for Moyles' brother's birthday.

This unexpected career shift showcases how even established musicians like Hunt sought alternative paths after the pandemic's disruptions, finding fulfillment in local, hands-on work within the Midlands community.
