Royal Photographer Shares Exclusive Insights About Working With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
A distinguished royal photographer has provided a rare glimpse into what it was truly like to work with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, both during their time as senior working royals and after their departure from Britain.
Behind the Scenes Access to the Sussexes
Chris Jackson, the official photographer for Getty Images, has extensive experience capturing the couple across various engagements and locations. His portfolio includes accompanying Prince Harry to destinations such as Lesotho and Bali, documenting humanitarian efforts and personal moments away from the public eye.
"I've always had a great experience photographing them both," Jackson revealed in an interview with Page Six, highlighting the positive professional relationship he maintained with the Duke and Duchess.
Special Moments at the Invictus Games
One of the most significant assignments involved the Invictus Games, the international sporting event for wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women founded by Prince Harry. Jackson was granted exclusive behind-the-scenes access that other photographers did not receive, allowing him to capture intimate moments of the couple's involvement.
He described the Invictus Games as "an incredible achievement" and expressed particular enjoyment from the trips taken with Harry and Meghan, noting they shared a "great dynamic" during their collaborative work.
Launch of Modern Majesty Photography Book
Jackson's comments emerged during a New York event celebrating the launch of his new book, Modern Majesty. This collection features a comprehensive array of his photographs of the Royal Family, including many never-before-seen behind-the-scenes images.
Notable photographs in the collection include:
- A unique perspective from the Buckingham Palace balcony on King Charles III's Coronation Day
- A series of family portraits featuring Harry and Meghan alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, commissioned for the King's 70th birthday celebrations
- Various candid moments that reveal the human side of royal life
The Photographer's Perspective on Royal Work
Jackson elaborated on his approach to photographing the royal family, emphasizing the documentary nature of his work. "They do very much just crack on with the job, and it's my job to kind of document and tell the story of whatever they're doing on the day," he explained.
Regarding feedback from his subjects, Jackson noted: "I think they understand the importance of photos and the power of photos. Generally, I think if there is good coverage of something they are trying to make a difference in, they are probably positive about that."
He was quick to clarify that royal photography isn't about vanity, stating: "I don't think it's really a vanity thing in terms of how they look in the pictures and that kind of side of it."
The photographer also acknowledged the element of chance in his profession, revealing: "You know, 50 percent of my job is luck. So many of the pictures in the book are unexpected moments."
Jackson concluded with appreciation for the diverse personalities within the royal family, saying: "There's all these different characters in the royal family. So I've always enjoyed photographing them." His reflections provide a unique professional perspective on one of the world's most photographed couples during a transformative period in their public lives.
