Ashby Lido, one of Birmingham's nearest outdoor pools, has issued a warning to swimmers ahead of the heatwave weekend. The pool at Ashby Leisure Centre in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, is fully booked for Saturday and Sunday, with limited availability on Monday.
Fully Booked Sessions
A spokesman for the lido posted on Facebook on Friday: "Please note, all outdoor swims for today (10th July) and tomorrow (11th July) are fully booked. We have limited availability on Sunday 12th July. Please book online wherever you can as we are currently dealing with extremely busy phone lines. We thank you for your cooperation and happy swimming!"
Popularity of Ashby-by-the-Sea
Known as Ashby-by-the-Sea, the lido first opened in 1929 and has undergone significant transformation and refurbishment over the years. It features a sand play area and space for pool-side sunbathing, making it a popular destination during hot weather.
Alternative Cooling Options
Birmingham offers many other places to keep cool during the heatwave, including outdoor pools, splash pads, aqua parks, and lakeside beaches where families can paddle, relax, or hire a pedalo or paddle board. A selection of 16 brilliant places to keep cool has been compiled, many free and most with cafes for cold drinks and ice cream.
Safety Advice
Visitors are reminded to take care around open water, apply plenty of sunscreen, stay well hydrated, wear a hat and sunglasses, and seek shade whenever possible. Pre-booking is recommended as opening times may vary.
