New Weekly Live Music Event at Birmingham Pub
A new weekly live music event is set to launch at a Birmingham pub in January 2025. Django Chutney will bring a diverse range of local musicians to the stage every Thursday evening at The Old Crown in Digbeth. The event aims to showcase emerging talent and provide a platform for artists from various genres, including jazz, folk, and indie.
Details of the Event
Organised by local promoter Tom Harris, Django Chutney will feature two acts each week, with a focus on original music. The first session is scheduled for Thursday, 9 January 2025, with doors opening at 7pm. Entry is free, and the event will run from 8pm to 11pm. According to Harris, the name Django Chutney pays homage to the late guitarist Django Reinhardt and the eclectic mix of styles expected.

The event is expected to fill a gap in Birmingham's live music offering, particularly for mid-week entertainment. The Old Crown, one of the city's oldest pubs, has a history of hosting live performances. Harris noted that the venue's intimate atmosphere is ideal for discovering new acts. He added, "Birmingham has a vibrant music scene, and we want to give artists a regular space to perform and connect with audiences."

Local musicians have expressed enthusiasm for the initiative. Singer-songwriter Ella Jones, who will perform on the opening night, said, "It's great to have a dedicated weekly slot for original music. This will help build a community around live performances in Digbeth." The event has also received support from the Birmingham Music Archive, which promotes the city's musical heritage.
Future Plans
Harris plans to expand Django Chutney to include workshops and open mic sessions later in 2025. He is also in talks with other venues to host similar events across the city. The aim is to create a network of grassroots music nights that support local talent and encourage audience participation.
