Landlord recounts ghostly encounter at Tipton pub

Malcolm Roberts, known as Macca, has been the landlord of The Rising Sun on Horseley Road in Tipton for 13 years. He now says he is a firm believer in the supernatural after being pushed down cellar stairs by an unseen force. 'I never used to believe in the supernatural but I do now,' Roberts told BirminghamLive.

Four spirits reportedly haunt the premises

According to Roberts, the pub is home to at least four spirits. One is a woman in white who allegedly committed suicide in the former stables, now a shed. Another is a former landlord named George, often seen in Victorian clothing. There is also a young boy who drowned in the Tipton canal.

Roberts described multiple incidents: 'I've been pushed down the cellar stairs, I've had a broom thrown at me and customers have seen ghosts.' He recounted how a regular noticed a man in the courtyard who then vanished into the shed, but when Roberts checked, no one was there.

Paranormal activity boosts pub's popularity

The pub featured on the TV show 'Help! My House is Haunted', which Roberts says has been great for business. 'I think the spookiness has helped the popularity of the pub,' he said. He described the spirits as 'friendly' and said he has had no issues with them.

Roberts also noted that his daughter and staff have seen the woman in white. 'For me, this is one of the most haunted pubs in the Midlands because I live here,' he added. The pub offers real ales under £5 and has a traditional décor with a West Bromwich Albion shrine.
