Joe Lycett will headline a one-night-only performance at Birmingham's Alexandra Theatre on Monday, December 7, 2026, as part of the venue's 125th birthday celebrations. The show, titled 'An evening with Joe Lycett and Friends with The Full Fatt Sound', will feature the Brummie queer choir The Full Fatt Sound, with acts incorporating the choir following their set, including a full number, backing track, or 'something else'.
A Personal Homecoming for Lycett
The comedian and artist has deep ties to The Alex, having first performed there in 2003 as Rusty Charlie in the theatre's Stage Experience production of Guys and Dolls. He also appeared in other youth productions, including Fame, Summer Holiday, West Side Story, and Copacabana. From 2008 to 2010, Lycett worked as a Front of House usher at the venue, returning 12 years later to film his 'More, More, More! How Do You Lycett' tour on its stage.
Lycett said: “The Alex is where I fell in love with the stage. It's a special and magical place to me, and I'm delighted and terrified to be bringing this one-off show here. But the main thing to know is that if you buy an ice cream the spoon is in the lid.”
What to Expect from the Show
The Alexandra Theatre's media announcement promised: “Expect comedy, music, awkwardness… and that’s about it!” The show will blend Lycett's signature comedy with musical performances from The Full Fatt Sound, a Birmingham-based queer choir known for their vibrant and inclusive performances.
Theatre director Simon Creed commented: "We are really excited to be welcoming back Joe to The Alex this December and presenting an evening of comedy and music to audiences as part of our 125th birthday celebrations. This year is all about highlighting the history of The Alex, and Joe is absolutely a part of that, so we're thrilled that he's joining us to mark this milestone year and celebrate the theatre's history with the people of Birmingham."
Ticket Details and Future Plans
Tickets for the special show go on sale on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. ATG+ members can purchase tickets now, with general sale beginning at 12pm. Joe Lycett will also return to The Alex in 2027 as part of his forthcoming tour, though details of that tour have yet to be announced.
In addition, Lycett's artwork is currently on display at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in a free-to-visit exhibition, which has been reviewed by our team.
