Royal Mint Launches Freddie Mercury Commemorative Coin

The Royal Mint has unveiled a stunning new commemorative coin celebrating the life and legacy of rock icon Freddie Mercury, marking the 40th anniversary of his legendary Live Aid performance and solo album release.

A Fitting Tribute to a Music Legend

Freddie Mercury's sister, Kashmira Bulsara, emotionally struck the first coin at the Royal Mint's facility in Llantrisant, describing the moment as profoundly moving for her family. "Freddie would have been absolutely delighted to see himself honoured in this way," she revealed. "He always had such respect for British traditions and institutions, and to have the Royal Mint celebrate his legacy with such beautiful artistry would have meant the world to him."

The intricate design captures Mercury mid-performance, complete with his famous signature. Special attention has been paid to symbolising his extraordinary musical talent, with a musical stave wrapping around the coin's edge representing his remarkable four-octave vocal range.

Design Details That Tell a Story

Collectors will appreciate the meticulous craftsmanship that brings Mercury's energy to life. The design includes a studded armband inspired by his iconic Live Aid outfit, while selected versions feature vibrant colour that perfectly recreates his famous yellow jacket.

Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at the Royal Mint, described the project as particularly special. "Freddie Mercury wasn't just a musician; he was a force of nature who transformed every stage he stepped onto," she said. "This coin captures that electric energy and celebrates a truly global icon whose influence continues to inspire generations."

The coin collection offers various options for collectors and fans alike:
