Music lovers and aspiring vocalists on the Wirral are being invited to find their voice and join a grand celebration of choral masterpieces. Hosted by Birkenhead Choral Society, the popular 'Come and Sing' event is making a highly anticipated return, offering local singers of all abilities the unique opportunity to perform some of the greatest classical music ever written.
The interactive workshop and performance will take over St Saviour's Church on Bidston Road in Oxton on Saturday, 10 October 2026. Running from 10am to 5.15pm, the day promises to be a melodic, motivating, and deeply fulfilling experience under the expert guidance of renowned musical director David Holroyd and talented accompanist Jon Barton.
Dive into Choral Masterpieces
Participants will spend the day sinking their musical teeth into iconic, large-scale choruses from two of history's greatest composers, J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart. The carefully selected repertoire features spectacular highlights, including the powerful Kyrie from Bach's stupendous B minor Mass, the joyful Magnificat, and the deeply moving Lachrymosa from Mozart's famous Requiem. Singers will also get to perform lighter choral favourites like the beautiful Ave verum.
Tickets for singers are priced at £20 for the entire day, which includes a comprehensive music booklet for you to keep. The day is designed to be highly social and relaxed, split into clear sessions with refreshments provided:
- 10am: Arrival, registration, and morning coffee
- 10.30am: First rehearsal session
- 12.30pm: Lunch break (Pre-book a light buffet from The Lunch Bunch for £6, or bring your own)
- 1.30pm: Second rehearsal session
- 3.30pm: Afternoon tea break with biscuits
- 4.15pm: Grand finale performance
Bring an Audience and Book Your Spot
It is not just about the rehearsals - the day culminates in a spectacular showcase. Friends, family, and local music fans are invited to watch the final performance at 4.15pm completely free of charge, though donations are welcomed on the day to help support the society. Whether you are a seasoned choir member or haven't sung since your school days, the ultimate goal of the event is to make magnificent music entirely fun.
