Adil Ray has confirmed that his ITV quiz show Lingo will return for a sixth series, while also making a rare and candid admission about his personal life on Good Morning Britain. The Birmingham-born presenter, actor, and comedian took to Instagram over the weekend to announce the show's renewal and to invite fans to apply as contestants.
In a post accompanying an official advert, Ray wrote: "Do you fancy being in the next series of Lingo? The team are looking for contestants! See you in September!!" The announcement was met with enthusiasm from followers, with one commenting, "I want to apply but I have nobody to apply with," and another adding, "Hurray glad Lingo is coming back, I have missed it xx."
ITV's Lingo returns with a call for duos
The official advert for the show reads: "ITV's hit quiz show is back and we want you! Got a way with words? Love a bit of friendly competition? You could win thousands of pounds! Team up with your partner, sibling, best friend, flatmate, parent or even grandparent! We're looking for fun, lively duos who are up for a challenge."
Lingo, hosted by Adil Ray, is a word-based game show where teams of two contestants compete to solve mystery words. The team in control is given the first letter of each mystery word and has five attempts to guess and spell it correctly. After each guess, the team is told whether their letters appear in the word and whether they are in the correct position. If a team fails to identify the word within five guesses, or exceeds the 10-second time limit per line, control passes to the opposing team, and one correct letter is revealed.

In addition to the Lingo news, Ray made headlines on Good Morning Britain after revealing he is planning to go on holiday with his ex-partner. During a debate about whether it is a good idea to holiday with an ex, Ray left co-host Kate Garraway and fellow guests stunned by admitting he is considering exactly that.
He told viewers: "I am good friends with my ex. She needs a holiday, and I need a holiday, and we are both thinking about it." A visibly surprised Garraway exclaimed, "Are you? Well you never talk about your romantic life." Ray clarified: "I have no present girlfriend, no. She is single, we both need a holiday so we thought why not? We get on really well."
He added that the pair might even share a room to save money, insisting: "We can be sensible, we can be purely platonic." Guest panellist Kerry Katona, 45, was not entirely convinced, telling him: "You're pushing it," while Coronation Street star Nigel Havers, 74, suggested the trip could rekindle the romance, saying: "You might get back together!" Ray did not specify which ex he was referring to.
Adil Ray's private life and GMB career
The Birmingham-born presenter has always kept his private life out of the spotlight. In 2021, he told OK! Magazine: "I'm looking for The One. Dating in lockdown is difficult - I just need the right girl to settle down with."
Ray has been a rotating presenter on Good Morning Britain since February 2019, regularly hosting alongside Ed Balls and Richard Madeley. The show airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX from 6am, and episodes of Lingo are available to watch on ITVX now.
