The mystery artist behind Birmingham's uplifting chicken graffiti has revealed the heartfelt reason for his positive street art. The 25-year-old, known as the 'chicken man', created the character Cluck as a symbol of hope while battling his own mental health struggles. His distinctive artwork featuring messages like 'love yourself' and 'keep trying' can be spotted across Digbeth, Edgbaston, Kings Heath and Ladywood.
A personal battle behind the art
"I've struggled with mental health my whole life," admitted the artist, who began pairing Cluck with positive messages three years ago. "I was telling this to the world, but really, I was spraying it on the wall because I needed to listen to that."
The guerrilla artist, who also works professionally as a mural painter, says he continues creating the artwork to brighten others' days. Hundreds of people have contacted him over the years to say Cluck put a smile on their faces.
Spreading positivity across Birmingham
"I love leaving positive messages for people," he said. "I just want people to be happy." Despite appearing in public spaces, the artist doesn't view his work as criminal damage because it spreads positivity. He's now planning to release limited prints around Birmingham so people can own their own Cluck artwork.
