Fundraisers across Leicester can explore their city under the stars while raising money for life-saving research. Cancer Research UK’s Shine Night Walk will follow a 10k route past some of the city's best-known landmarks. The event, on October 17, starts at The Venue, De Montfort University, at 7pm, then takes in Leicester Cathedral, Haymarket Clocktower, Arch of Remembrance and Mini Statue of Liberty.
Early Bird Discount and How to Sign Up
Anyone who signs up before Monday, September 7 can claim 30% off the entry fee by using the code SNWAUG26. The discount applies to all participants who register before the deadline. Organisers encourage early booking to secure the reduced rate.
Walk for What Matters Most
Whether people take part in honour, celebration or remembrance, they can choose to support the area of research that matters to them most. This year, participants have the option to direct their fundraising to specific cancer research projects, giving them a personal connection to the cause.
“Shine Night Walk is an uplifting and unforgettable evening where thousands come together to take on a unique challenge, make memories and make a difference for people affected by cancer,” said charity spokesperson Jose Ramos. “It’s not just the glowsticks and glitter that light up the night, it’s the hope everyone brings.”
Progress and Volunteer Opportunities
Ramos added: “It’s thanks to our supporters that we’ve helped double cancer survival in the UK over the past 50 years. Every step helps create a brighter future – one where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.”
Volunteers are also needed to help guide walkers around the course on the night. Roles include marshalling at key points, providing directions, and supporting participants along the route. Those interested can volunteer without taking part in the walk itself.
