Mother-Daughter Duo Graduate from Apprenticeships Together

A mother and daughter who work together at a local pub are celebrating after graduating from their management apprenticeships at the same time.

Supporting Each Other Through Training

Kelly Davies and her daughter Sinead supported each other to achieve their qualifications while working at The Farmers Arms in Waunarlwydd. The pair serve as manager and assistant manager at the venue and completed the training to boost their skills. The qualifications were delivered by training provider Inspiro to help the duo run the business professionally.

A Proud Moment for Kelly

Kelly Davies, pub manager, said: “At the age of 42, I never expected to be graduating alongside my eldest daughter who is half my age. It’s my greatest achievement and proudest moment of my learning journey so far.” The mother-of-five has worked at the pub for 11 years and was promoted to the top job three years ago. She added: “When I started the apprenticeship, I didn’t think I would be able to fit it in with managing the pub and being a parent to five children, but I have enjoyed learning so much.”

Sinead’s Journey into Hospitality

Her daughter Sinead originally planned to become a midwife before choosing a career in the hospitality industry alongside her mother. Sinead Davies, assistant manager, commented: “During the apprenticeship, I learned that there is a lot more to my role than I thought. The proudest moment for me was learning alongside my mum who has been supportive throughout.”

Future Plans and Praise from Assessor

Both women now plan to take their education even further by moving on to higher-level qualifications. Marika Dunphy, training assessor, continued: “Sinead is composed, organised, knowledgeable and always does lots of research before completing her coursework. She and her mum work together very well as a team and know they can rely on each other.” The family duo joined more than 100 other successful students at a special graduation ceremony held at the Royal Welsh Showground.
