Brentwood Pupils Experience Mock Courtroom in Unique Magistrates Lesson
Children solemnly swore to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth during a distinctive educational session at Larchwood Primary School in Brentwood. The 'Magistrates in the Community' initiative recently visited Year 6 pupils, providing an immersive lesson on the workings of the magistrates' court.
Learning Through Role-Play and Discussion
Pupils engaged in discussions about crime-related scenarios and considered the potential consequences of various actions. They explored important issues, such as the impact of sending unkind messages online, and received guidance on using messaging apps responsibly. This hands-on approach helped demystify the legal system and emphasized the importance of ethical behavior in daily life.
New Roles in a Mock Courtroom Setting
The classroom was transformed into a mock courtroom for the day, with pupils taking on a variety of roles. They acted as the accused, the victim, witnesses, solicitors, and magistrates, gaining firsthand experience of the judicial process. This interactive setup allowed them to understand different perspectives within the legal framework and fostered a deeper appreciation for the rule of law.
Teacher Sophie Rimmer commented, "This was a great insight into the role of the magistrates.
