Lift Four Dwellings Primary School in Quinton has opened a new nursery dedicated to two-year-olds, allowing children to begin their school journey at the age of two for the first time. The new provision, named 'The Nest', welcomed its youngest pupils this term and sits alongside the school's existing nursery for three-year-olds.
The Nest features a garden, sand play, trikes, and a tunnel, along with new learning and play equipment designed specifically for younger children. The school says the environment is bright and engaging, giving children space to explore and learn.
Focus on early development
The nursery’s curriculum focuses on children’s language, communication, and personal and social development. Daily outdoor learning and active play are central to the approach, helping children build confidence and develop new skills. The setting also gives children the chance to become familiar with the school from an early age, easing their transition into formal education.
Head of school Jaime Bryan said: “We are delighted to open our doors to two-year-olds and welcome our youngest children into the Lift Four Dwellings family. Starting at two gives children the opportunity to become familiar with the school, build relationships and grow in confidence from an early age. We’re really looking forward to seeing them settle in and begin their learning journey with us.”
Funding and demand
The opening follows a successful application for government funding to expand the school’s nursery, responding to demand for places for younger children in the local area. Nabila Jiwa, Regional Education Director for Lift Schools, said: “It’s fantastic to see the new provision welcoming children into Lift Four Dwellings. Giving families the opportunity to start their children at the school earlier means they can build relationships, settle into school life and grow in confidence as they learn and develop.”
The new nursery is part of the school’s existing early years provision, which already catered to three-year-olds. With the addition of The Nest, children can now start at the school at age two, allowing them to build relationships with staff and peers and become familiar with the school environment well before they reach reception age.
Parents in Quinton and the surrounding area now have an additional early years option for their two-year-olds, with the school’s expanded nursery helping to meet local demand. The school has not announced any further expansion plans at this time.
