Chase High School in Westcliff-on-Sea has announced that more students than ever before are progressing to university from its sixth form. Year 13 students collected their A-level and BTEC results yesterday, with the cohort moving on to a range of destinations, including Hertfordshire University, Brighton University, Exeter University, and The University of East London, as well as degree apprenticeships.
Record progression to higher education
This year's cohort shows a 14% increase in the number of students heading to university compared to last year. Among the notable achievements, Zachary Lamb has become the first student in the school's history to secure a place to study medicine at Edinburgh University.
Headteacher Matt Suttenwood expressed pride in the students' accomplishments, stating: "I couldn't be prouder of our students as they celebrate their results today. Their achievements reflect not only their commitment and hard work but also the resilience and determination they have shown throughout their time with us."
Top achievers and their destinations
The school highlighted several high achievers from this year's cohort. Zachary Lamb achieved grade A in biology and chemistry and grade B in maths, and will study medicine at Edinburgh University. Francesca Lucas, who collected three Distinction* and one Distinction in business studies and information technology, will step into an IT technician/software engineer apprenticeship at Havens Hospice.
Wahid Ahmed, with Double Distinction* in sport and a grade C in biology, will study physiotherapy at university. Grace King, who achieved one Distinction*, a Distinction in art and design, and a grade C in English literature, will go on to Southend University. Isobel-May Halladay, with Double Distinction in art and design, a grade B in English literature, and a grade C in history, will study history of art at UCL.
Diverse paths and apprenticeships
Other students are pursuing varied routes. Georgie Woodford collected two Distinctions and two Merits in business and sport. Amarildo Prifti, with one Distinction and two Merits in business and games development, is starting an apprenticeship. Phoebe Chhoi, who achieved one Distinction and a Merit in sport and in health and social care, will study paramedic science at the University of Greenwich.
Laura Murtezi, with one Distinction and a Merit in art and design and in health and social care, will study fine art at the University of East London. Katie Stanford, who achieved one Distinction and a Merit in art and design and in media, will study art, media and film at Suffolk University.
Mr Suttenwood added: "We take great pride in celebrating every student's individual journey and the progress they have made, as well as their final outcomes. It is wonderful to see the exciting opportunities that now lie ahead, and I look forward to seeing each of them embrace their next chapter and thrive in whatever path they choose."
