Birmingham School's Attendance Strategies Earn Ofsted Praise

E-ACT North Birmingham Academy in Erdington has been recognized by Ofsted for its 'trailblazing' attendance strategies, which are now being shared with other schools across the region. The school has maintained consistently high attendance rates well above the national average, a notable achievement given its location near deprived and high-crime neighborhoods.

Exceptional Ofsted Grade

The academy has become one of the first secondary schools in the West Midlands to receive Ofsted's new 'exceptional' grade in attendance and behaviour. In its latest inspection report, Ofsted stated: 'Attendance is very high when compared with the national average for all pupils.' The school also achieved four 'strong standard' grades and two 'expected standard' ratings.

Behaviour and Environment

Ofsted praised the school's behaviour standards, noting that 'suspensions are very low' and bullying is rare. Inspectors added that pupils 'flourish in the positive environment' created by consistently high behaviour expectations. Leaders have been asked to share their successful strategies with other educational institutions.
