St Paul's Girls Tops Birmingham Comprehensives in GCSE Results

St Paul's School for Girls in Edgbaston, considered the best comprehensive in Birmingham, has again posted exceptional exam results, cementing its status among the region's top schools.

More than four in five pupils (82%) achieved grade 5 or above in English and maths, while 91% passed at least five GCSEs, according to the latest Department for Education (DfE) performance figures.

Those scores place the comprehensive in the top 10 Birmingham schools of all types, alongside private and grammar schools.

Top Results Across All School Types

The DfE data shows St Paul's remains one of the highest-performing schools of any kind in the city. Its exam performance is so strong that it rubs shoulders with selective and independent institutions, which naturally have an advantage as they can attract some of the brightest pupils.

Comprehensives accept children of all backgrounds from the local area, which brings more challenges. St Paul's consistently achieves top results despite this, and is considered the best comprehensive in the city.

Recognition in National Guides

Earlier this year, St Paul's was named the best comprehensive in the Midlands in the Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2026, widely regarded as one of the most authoritative school rankings.

The school also achieved a perfect rating of 'outstanding' at its last inspection in February 2023.

Ofsted Praise for School Culture

Ofsted said at the time: "Leaders at St Paul's School for Girls have created a welcoming school culture where there is high ambition for pupils."

"Pupils are aware of the very high expectations the school has of them and do everything they can to meet or to exceed these. There are strong, caring relationships between staff and pupils."

"Pupils conduct themselves exceptionally well in lessons and during social times. Pupils are confident, polite and tolerant individuals. They respect and value each other."
