The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for extreme heat for swathes of England, urging people in nine counties in the Midlands to consider gathering torches and batteries ahead of potential power cuts. The amber alert affects Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, the West Midlands conurbation, Shropshire, Nottinghamshire, and Herefordshire.

Heat Warning Details

A developing hot spell through Monday and Tuesday will likely lead to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure, the Met Office warns, issuing the update from 1am on Monday, June 22, and saying it will expire the following day, at 11.59pm on Tuesday, June 23.

Power Cut Preparedness

In the warning, the Met Office warns extreme heat could trigger power cuts, saying: People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
