Three men who targeted a woman in Birmingham before driving her to Clent and sexually assaulting her have been jailed for a combined total of more than 20 years. Arjan Purewal, 23, hired a BMW using a fake ID to specifically go out and find a victim, police said. He and Jaskaran Thandi, 23, and Hassan Jangheer, 23, picked up a woman on Broad Street and drove her to Vine Lane in Clent, where she was attacked in the early hours of 16 September 2023.
Sentencing at Worcester Crown Court
At Worcester Crown Court, Purewal was sentenced to a total of eight years and six months, Thandi to six years and four months, and Jangheer to six years. All three must sign the sex offenders register for life. The survivor said she was dumped in the 'middle of nowhere' following the ordeal, which took place at around 3.30am. Purewal filmed the assault on his mobile phone.
Police response to the attack
Detective Inspector Warren Matthews said: "Their vile and predatory actions caused significant harm to the survivor, but we hope the sentencing helps on her path to recovery." The case highlights the dangers faced by individuals on nights out in Birmingham, and the police have reiterated their commitment to tackling such crimes.
Impact on the survivor
The survivor's statement described the trauma of being left isolated after the attack. The combined sentences reflect the severity of the offences, with all three men now subject to lifelong monitoring. The police have urged anyone with information about similar incidents to come forward.
