Recent Maintenance and Resident Reaction

Council workers had recently mowed the grass and cut back overgrown vegetation in the park earlier that week. Local resident Rizwana Kausar captured a video of the incident. She said, 'I heard sirens whilst I was working from home and when stepped outside. There was police and fire brigade, fire in the park. Councillor Adnan had the grass cut recently the park looked so much nicer and presentable and this happens.'

Fire Service Response

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed: 'We were called at 17.20 and sent two appliances. The fire affected the grassland within the recreation ground.' The cause of the fire is under investigation. The incident comes amid soaring temperatures in the region, which have contributed to several park fires in recent days.
